Echo Environment Awards Winners 2014
Here at Pod Living we have just heard the great news that a school in Liverpool that we installed our very first Eco Classroom in has just scooped a prestigious award.
Childwall CofE Primary School has been awarded the United Utilities Sustainable School of the year 2014.
The Echo Environment Awards, held at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, gives awards to the top environmentally active people and organisations in the Merseyside area.
We know from working with this fantastic school that they are constantly aiming to improve the environment of the school, which in turn led to the installation of our buildings. The classroom we installed at Childwall has an A+ EPC and a Minus Zero Carbon Rating.
It is insulated above building regulation requirements, and generates power from solar panels on the roof.
The business manager at the school was kind enough to say:
“the school have recently gained an outstanding award for ‘Sustainable School of the Year’ . There is no doubt that the building of this space has had a tremendous impact upon the whole school community.”
The school takes great pride in its Eco status and has a number of measures in place to assure they stay top of the tree.
Energy Management – The energy usage of the school is constantly monitored via an Eco Warrior system to ensure no wastage.
Gardening Club – Encouraging children to take care of the surrounding environment by creating a wildlife area and a vegetable patch.
Eco Tip Of The Week – This engages the children to put forward ideas for improving the environment.
Waste Management – The school have recently changed their waste collections to a new company and participate in the ‘bags4schools’ initiative.
Health & Safety – The school were recently awarded Community Partnerships Award 2013 runners up prize for their work on improving health and safety around the school.
Solar Panels – With the school already making money off the solar panels installed on our Eco Classroom this is set to rise over the summer.
Healthy Schools – The pupils are given lessons in PSHE regarding nutrition and development which has led to the school being awarded the Healthy Schools Award again.
Golden Boot – This encourages pupils to walk to school. At the end of the week the class with the most walkers receives the Golden Boot Award.
Brookfield Partnership – The school take part in this project to ensure all school dinners meet nutritional standards, and have been encouraged by an uptake in school dinners.
Paper Waste – The school are reducing the use of paper including parent letters.
We are very proud that our Eco Classroom has helped the school achieve its aims, alongside a vast amount of other work that the school clearly puts into its day to day running. If all schools were run in this manner the difference to the environment and the children’s education would be huge!
Congratulations to everyone at Childwall CE Primary School for all your outstanding work.
